Questions about Reeltime College
Why don't you do everything over the web?
Right now the Internet doesn't have enough reliable bandwidth for high
quality media files. A typical College course just about fills a CD, even
with the media compressed, so downloads would take an unacceptable time.
So, for the time being, distributing the media using CDs is the most
viable option.
If you are running the courses on a high speed
LAN, then you can install the courses on a server, which means you don't
have to distribute the CDs to each student. But you still have the
flexibility to run the courses from CD is you want to - so for example, people might want to take their
courses home, away from the LAN - and they can still make progress
even with a slow modem.
Of course, once high bandwidth connections become the norm, we'll be
ready to supply media files over the Internet, but not yet.
What use is the Reeltime College Certificate?
The Reeltime College progress and completion certificates are designed
as a practical record of your training, which you can use as evidence of
completing specific training activities. The certificates are itemised, so
you can see in detail what activities you have covered.
Reeltime College is completely independent from any software publisher.
In most cases the courses meet or exceed the standards for RSA, CLAIT,
MOUS, ECDL and other certificating bodies, and will prepare you for any
certification exams.
How do I get the Course Handbook?
Once you are enrolled for the course, you can download the handbook
from the student area of the web site. You'll need to provide your Student
ID and password, but we don't charge for the download itself.
If you are taking a Reeltime course through on of our partner
organisations, it's possible you will be given the handbooks as part of
the course materials.
How many courses can I enrol on at once?
It depends who is paying! There is no technical
limit - you can enrol on as many courses as you wish, provided you use a
separate Student ID and password for each course.
College will also allow you to group several courses together using a
single ID and password, which is then valid for each course. There is a
limit of 5 courses for a single ID at any time. Once you've finished a
course, you can graduate and then enrol on another course (graduated
courses don't count in the limit of five).
If you are taking a Reeltime course through on of our partner
organisations, ask your supervisor about your course
entitlement.
What support can I get?
You can get support by e-mail to the College tutors. We can answer
specific questions which arise from the course. For more general
questions, you can look at the Frequently Asked Questions page on the web
site, which will grow as the on-line community grows. Also, you can post
questions to the student discussion group, which is an open forum for all
topics to do with the College as well as those on specific courses.
If you are taking a Reeltime course
through on of our partner organisations, it is likely that you will get
support from someone within your organisation, rather than directly from
the College. Ask your supervisor about your support
entitlement.
